Impact Mapping - a cheatsheet

I’ve had some good results using Impact Mapping, both in my professional and personal life.

Impact Mapping is a process to clearly visualise the impacts that various people (“actors”) will have in helping you achieve a goal.

A goal might be something you want to tease out of a customer (if you’re consulting), something you want to achieve as a team, or it might be something you want to achieve in your personal life (e.g. get a promotion!). Impact Mapping can help you figure out how you’re going to get there.

For me, the greatest thing about it is that it encourages everyone to focus on the goal - which is the most important thing, and we often forget about it!

(I’m particularly fond of chasing the next shiny thing, without stopping to think whether it will actually have any impact on my goals. Impact Mapping helps with this.)
